Discovering You by Kate McBrien
Review by Sue Discovering You by Kate McBrien is a steamy read. The heat rises slowly in this novel but once the switch is flipped, it boils over with passion. Lucy Bianchi is working on her dissertation to get her PhD in art history. She is also an intern at a gallery and is thrilled to have the opportunity to see the Varangian cross. When she sees and handles the cross for the first time, she feels dizzy and gets a headache but thinks no further on it. Justin Hamilton is part of a band but is beginning strides to become a solo artist. Through his music, he manifests his longing to meet his soulmate. While recording a few covers, he finally meets her. He doesn’t know how or why but he knows Lucy is it for him. Upon their first meeting, Lucy and Justin feel an instant attraction and a strong sense of familiarity. How could this be? They have never met before that day… It seems destiny has brought these two lovers together against all odds but will they be torn apart by circumstance? Gah! This book was so frustrating! I didn’t realize it was part of a series and it ended on a cliff hanger! (my fault, of course 😊) Regardless of the above, I was completely invested in their story. I NEED to know what happens! Discovering You is told in dual POV and told well. The historical prologue at the beginning of the book was engaging. Afterward, the author let that thread lie which was a bit confusing since there is no more mention of it for the remainder of the book. In my opinion, the author should have left the historical part out or should have made some other reference to it through flashbacks or visions as I believe this historical aspect is pertinent to the story unfolding. There is OW and OM drama but it is tastefully done. Not too over the top. Lucy’s character is unsure of herself. She is still under her parents’ thumb and they control so much of her life. I am anxious to see Lucy become independent of them and become confident in herself. Justin is a wonderfully romantic hero. He is kind and caring but he makes a few mistakes along the way that made me angry!!! I loved both these characters and absolutely adored them together. This book was intriguing and I cannot wait to read more about the cross and what power it holds over our two main characters and why. This was an entertaining read and a great start to a new series. **ARC provided by author for honest review**
