Killing for Her by Alexis Abbott

Review by Sue Killing for Her by Alexis Abbot is a fast read about a mafia princess looking for independence from her controlling father and a mafia hitman looking for revenge. Anastasia is a princess of the Bratva. She is looking to strike out on her own. After so many years of being spoiled by her father, she is ready to give back to the community. Her father however, has other ideas. He has planned an arranged marriage for her to a man as old as he is! She of course does not want this but, she has no other choice. Nikolai is an assassin for the mafia. He lives for nothing but revenge and has no allegiance to anyone. Ana and Nikolai meet serendipitously. She is trying to escape her fate and he is ready to claim his revenge. Will Nikolai aid in her escape and will she be willing to help in his plan for revenge? I love the premise of this book and it caught may attention. The first third of the book had me intrigued and settling in to read an angsty mafia romance. Unfortunately, it fell below my expectations. The characters themselves were underdeveloped. There is really no introspection or growth that occurs with either character and because of that they were cardboard cut-out. I felt as though what makes them unique as characters was glossed over. There were secondary characters but they only had cameos to aid the plot. The relationship between Ana and Nikolai was a case of insta-love and because of this their love felt forced and happened too quickly. The writing itself was ok but some awkward wording such as: “I’m going to drain myself in you.”, “…my cock stiff as a pillar” and “..the sight of my spear..” lessened my enjoyment of the book. Overall this was an ok read. Recommended for those who enjoy a light, insta-love romance with a HEA. **ARC provided for honest review**
