The Long Way Around by Quinn Anderson
Review by Morgen The Long Way Around by Quinn Anderson is a standalone. The main theme of the book is friendship, the intimacy they share and how far that connection can take them. Sam is a complete introvert, he shys away from confrontation and would rather stay home than go out. He’s smart, sweet, and wants nothing more than to safely hide from his problems. Wesley is the life of the party. Charming and charismatic he knows how to have a good time. He’s never had a serious relationship to speak of. Sam and Wes are college roommates turned best friends. Now a year after graduation they both find themselves momentarily unemployed. Sam just went through a bad break up and is afraid to see his family for his sister’s wedding in a few weeks. Wes convinces Sam that a road trip is just what they need to take a break and adventure around the country even see the Pacific Ocean along the way. So many new memories to be made, what’s the worst that could happen? The connection Sam and Wes share really drew me in, it’s written so beautifully. Their emotional development was done naturally. I really enjoyed the slow build of the angst. As their need for each other grew the passion caught the pages on fire. When one touch became more there was no going back to being just friends. The book is told in third person and with both the main characters being male it became a tad confusing when the author changed focus. Their road trip was exciting to follow, the food and drinks were my favorite part. We get to see their intimacy as friends blossom into something more. Their friendship is so strong it can weather any storm but can they survive once they know the bliss they can find in each other’s arms. Will Sam and Wes be able to confront their feelings and admit what’s going on? I would definitely recommend this book. It was fun and passionate. **ARC provided for honest review**
