Pippa by Malynda Schlegel

Review by Morgen Pippa by Malynda Schlegel is a psychological thriller about not letting anyone to take your happiness away. We meet Pippa when she is eight years old. She has a big imagination and is subjected to the whims of her parents. She keeps her emotions safely burried deep inside her. She’s too afraid to make friends, she doesn’t trust easily or really at all. The story follows Pippa throughout her childhood. In the beginning her only interaction with the world, apart from school is her mother. He father lives in the same house with them but the need to be invisible is ingrained in her at a young age. Her father works days and her mother is gone nights. She’s always noticed a sadness in her mother’s eyes, and try as she might it never truly goes away. She sees her father as larger than life, her world seems to revolve around him. All she wants is for him to love her. We examine the world through Pippa’s eyes. As she grows older she understands her environment better. Which gives us a more extensive view of the characters and storyline. Living a life where you’re not to be seen or heard affects her immensely, but it is the only life she knows. If you ask her she is happy. She values the few moments she gets with her father, they are few and far between. She doesn’t get home cooked meals or holidays but in her imagination anything is possible. Can she finally make friends and have it not end in disappointment? I went on an emotional journey that had such weight to it there were some points I had to pause to breathe. I connected with her so thoroughly it was difficult to separate myself from Pippa. I have a soft spot for the broken souls and that is definitely her. The character development of her and her parents was absolutely amazing. It truly drew me in. As the story unfolded I was on the edge of my seat just begging for more. Everything about Pippa made me love her even more. There is a depth to her character, that makes everything about her struggle feel real, and drags you along for a ride. Piece by piece we slowly uncover what Pippa is truly made of. Will the secrets shatter her completely or will the truth finally set her free? I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys some psychological suspense. **ARC provided for an honest review**
