The Ocean Between Us by Michelle Heard
Review by Heather The Ocean Between Us by Michelle Heard is an enthralling and emotional romance novel. Aiden and Emma's characters are interesting and well-developed however, the story deals with very dark topics and has graphic descriptions of abuse that are quite disturbing. Emma has spent her entire life in hiding. Hiding from the one person who is supposed to protect her, guide her and support her. She suffers through never ending emotional and physical abuse so when she is afforded an opportunity to leave her home in South Africa to attend university in America she jumps at it. It may only be short respite, but maybe it’ll be enough. Fate delivers her into the hands of Detective Aiden Holden. Within days of meeting Emma, Aiden knows he needs to protect her and he knows he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. Before that can happen though, Aiden has a case. He needs to break up a ring that is abducting young women from the college town and trafficking them for sex. Can he do his job and protect Emma from her tormentors at home? Just when Aiden thinks he has it all figured out, Emma finds herself needing to go back to South Africa. Back into the clutches of her tormentors. Now an ocean separates them and it seems there is no hope for Emma and Aiden. I fell in love with Aiden and Emma and was rooting for them both from the very beginning. They are likeable, real characters and you can’t help but want true love to find a way to prevail in the end. I really enjoyed The Ocean Between Us and highly recommend it. **ARC provided for an honest review**
