Little Darlings by Melanie Golding
Review by Heather Little Darlings by Melanie Golding is creepy. Intensely creepy. Taking inspiration from the darkest parts of fairy tales, Ms. Golding has woven a tale in modern time that weaves in supernatural in supreme fashion without being campy. Lauren Tranter has just given birth to twins, as a twin mom myself, I could immediately relate to the exhaustion and anxiety portrayed in the book. While still in the hospital, Lauren is convinced that someone has tried to take her babies, but no one believes her. After going home, her husband isn’t really that helpful and Lauren struggles to return to a normal life. One day she ventured to the park with her boys in their stroller and succumbed to the lovely day and sheer tiredness and falls asleep on a bench. When she wakes up the stroller and the boys are missing. They are quickly recovered, but they aren’t her boys. Sure, they look like them, but something is …different. The writing is fantastic (a bit slow in the beginning to be honest, but quickly picks up) and the characters are honestly portrayed. Lauren and the detective, Jo, are my favorite characters. This book was thoroughly enjoyable and kept me entertained to the very end. Highly recommended. **ARC provided in exchange for an honest review**
