Blocked (Boston Terriers Hockey, #3) by Jacob Chance

Review by Meaghan Blocked is book three in Jacob Chance’s Boston Terriers Hockey series and it comes with a whole host of well-loved romance tropes – college sports, best friend’s little sister, second chance, and friends-to-lovers. The structure of this book is different from many out there with it divided into two parts, with part two starting 18 months later. We start off with Maddie graduating from high school. Her brother, Marshall, and his best friend, Shaw, are home for the summer and come along to celebrate their friend’s graduation. When Marshall heads off to summer camp, Shaw and Maddie start spending more and more time together which only amplifies Maddie’s childhood crush on her brother’s best friend. Shaw is the goalie for Boston University’s hockey team. While back home for the summer and spending time with Maddie he starts to realize that his brother’s little sister isn’t so little anymore and maybe he wants to explore that idea some more. “It’s like a switch has flipped and she’s become this unwanted temptation. Does she want this too? Does she feel this too?” The chemistry between Shaw and Maddie is sky high and they are such a good fit for each other. I liked watching their relationship develop through the first part of the book. After a miscommunication Maddie changes her plans and heads off to another college, despite having always dreamt of attending BU. Fast forward 18 months and Maddie is at Boston University and it doesn’t take long for her to run into Shaw again. I found myself frustrated with both Shaw and Marshall. I personally don’t have an older brother so maybe I just don’t understand the sibling dynamic of having an overprotective older brother who thinks no-one could ever be good enough for his little sister. I felt this was over-played and wished Maddie would stand up for herself more than she did. Overall, I did enjoy reading this book, Jacob Chance definitely knows how to write college sports romance! I just wished I could have loved this couple as much as I have loved the other couples in this series. **ARC provided for an honest review**
