Separated (In Midsummer, #2) by Jessica Frances
Review by Meaghan When this book hit my Kindle, all I wanted to do was drop everything and start reading. After the ending to the first book in this series (Stranded) left me flicking and wanting more, it hurt me to have to sit on this one. Jessica Frances did not disappoint and this one was everything I could I have wanted – and then more! Separated is the second installment of the series, In Midsummer, by Jessica Frances. Whilst Stranded followed Conner and his adventures in Midsummer, this time around we are treated to Rocky’s point of view. We still got some steamy M/M romance with a side of mystery, but we also got to learn more about what has shaped our gruff sheriff into someone who claims he doesn’t “have time for a relationship”. “As much as I like Conner, I don’t want to be a reason he gives up on his dream. I don’t want to be someone left behind again when he continues with his plans.” This time around Rocky’s focus is forced to shift back to Conner when he starts receiving death threats, especially once they start to take a more serious turn and Conner’s life is put in danger. Despite his reservations about letting Conner into both his and his daughter River’s lives, when he learns that Conner is having trouble sleeping he steps up and goes into protective mode to help keep Conner safe. I loved getting to see just how much Rocky cares about the people that are important to him, he just maybe doesn’t do the best job expressing it. “I had some serious considerations of what my future could look like if Conner stayed. He fits with River and me. He could become part of our everyday lives so easily.” As with the first book, this one ends with another plot twist thrown in to create havoc in Rocky and Conner’s lives. This one left me laughing and looking forward to the adventures still to come for this pair. Another fantastic book, I’m very much looking forward to the next one!
