Devious Kisses (It's Just High School, #1)
Review by Meaghan Devious Kisses is the first book in Thandiwe Mpofu’s brand new series “It’s Just High School”. An enemies-to-lovers bully romance full of angst, betrayal, and scorching hot sexual tension. The story follows a group of rich high school students from rival schools. Mia is one of the popular girls who has been labeled as the ‘Ice Queen’. Her seemingly perfect world is falling apart, her family is losing everything and she’s trying desperately to hold onto her status and popularity while trying to keep her mother’s illness a secret from the world. Julian is the hotshot star of his high school football team. He’s fiercely protective of his brothers and has done everything in his power to keep his older brother Aiden safe and taken care of. Julian’s hatred towards Mia stems from one of their first meetings in the hospital after she accidentally let it slip to some reporters about Aiden’s illness after he had been kept away from the prying eyes of the media. There was one particular heart-stopping moment that had me torn between being absolutely terrified to keep reading for fear of what I might read and wanting to devour the rest of the book because I needed to know what was going to happen. This one isn’t a typical bully romance like others I have read before - Mia has a strong backbone and gives back almost as good as she gets. While I didn’t always agree with what she was doing, I loved reading a strong female lead. Thandiwe Mpofu has built a world full of strong secondary characters in this series and I’m looking forward to seeing who’s story we’ll get to read next. **ARC provided in exchange for an honest review**
