Not My Romeo (The Game Changers, #1)
Review by Meaghan Not My Romeo was everything I wanted in a book right now, once I started reading I couldn’t put it down! This sports-themed rom-com is the first in the brand new series “The Game Changers” by Ilsa Madden-Mills. I think one of the reasons I loved this book so much was how likable the main characters were and I found that I was able to relate to them in certain aspects of their lives. Jack is the football superstar surrounded by an air of confidence. As we get to know him better, we soon realize it’s all an act and he has major trust issues after a troubled childhood and being burned by an ex-girlfriend. Being a star quarterback comes with the downside of constantly being in the limelight with reporters doing everything they can to score that elusive interview. When Elena strides up to his dinner table he is quick to assume she must be a reporter looking for a scoop. On the surface, Elena is a quiet, small-town librarian, but not so deep down she has big dreams of creating a fun and sexy lingerie line. Her best friend sets her up on a blind date on Valentine’s Day after she found out her ex-boyfriend had cheated on her. But fate had other plans when her date forgets to tell her he is unwell and can’t make it, she assumes Jack is her date and unbeknownst to her she picks up the celebrity footballer. There is plenty of steamy fun with lots of laughs and some sweet swoon-worthy scenes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all smooth sailing and they have their share of conflicts, but it’s just the right amount to keep you drawn in. I really felt for Jack with his anxiety and trust issues, he has a hard time letting Elena truly into his life. This one is a must-read! ***ARC received in exchange for an honest review***
